The Little Big Shop 2011

April 15th-May 15th

I am always getting involved with events that really make differences to peoples life, as before with the Summer of Love Fair, I intend to really home in on this fantastic event.  Whenever I see those awful adverts on my television of those poor children who have to travel for hours and hours and such long distances, or are even forced to drink the sewage water or filthy water that contains disease upon disease- Tears roll down my face, and my heart just crumbles. Why should anyone have to live like that? I think a lot about my lifestyle and how much I felt guilty of taking our fresh water supply SO much for granted!

The Website:

The Little BIG shop fair/event need your amazing support in raising money for a brilliant cause: “The Water Project” A project which should touch your hearts dearly as the funds to help bring clean water to Africa and India.

The Concept

This event will be complete combination of: little stores, big stores, artists – all for the cause of bringing water to poor parts of the world.  Many small stores aswell as major labels will participate in the event, which will be held at a sim donated by Maddox Dupont of KMADD Enterprise: Each boutique will house 2-4 big and little stores, mixed together. Artists in Second Life will be designer and creating boutique windows.

The Charity

Nearly 1 billion people don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water. This is a world wide issue. The reason we picked “The Water Project” is because we recognize the need for change and the need to help those who are suffering. With our help billions of people can get clean and safe water into their homes. This will cut down on sickness , lack of education, and poverty. How can we not lend a helping hand to this cause? The money you use in Second Life and at the fair for the specially made items themed for the cause will be donated to the cause. We have a goal of 500,000 lindens which roughly translates to US$1,992.34 dollars. Below you will see how these funds can help a village gain hope.

* $10 – One Person’s Clean Water

* $50 – Give a Family Clean Water

* $250 – Water for a Classroom

* $1,000 – Purchase a Well Pump

* $6,500 – Fund an Entire Project

SL Community Goal

The purpose of The Little BIG Shop Event is to encourage designers to share their talents, network, and become both mentors and learners in a collaborative community. Established big shops help out little shops by mentoring them with things like how to manage, network, or how to build and make quality products. Events like the Little Big Shop allow these great chances for smaller shops to let the world know about them.

Man in the mirror…

Okay, So I recently started writing an article for a magazine called Deja Vu, I was thinking of things to write that actually went with this months theme, Michael Jackson’s song “Man in the Mirror”, but also something that linked with Real life, and Second Life. Everything I write is 100% truth, so here it is and let me know what you think 🙂

SORRRRRRY, the layout on this thing is awful, its not me it wordpress! so sorry!

Man In The Mirror
When you listen to Michael Jackson’s Classic “Man In the Mirror”, and you listen to the words of the song, you notice that passion oozes out of the song from every direction. Passion for something can make you do the craziest things,
but for the right reasons.  As a writer, I like to explore new places, try new things, and I like to learn.
My reasons for this are not only because I enjoy it but I also hope to write about my latest ventures and share
my thoughts on them with my readers.
What does “Man in the Mirror” Really promote? It promotes change. Change is something, I believe that
everyone should have. Change is not only good for you, but it allows a person to build up experiences
in their lifetime, for the better or in some cases for the worst. “Man in the Mirror” Includes so many powerful
words, that it is overwelming, however change stood out the most and it inspired me to make a change
of my own.
In my Real life, I joined a small foundation called Team Kenya. Team Kenya, is a young organisation
supporting and working with communities in Western Kenya so they can address their own
development needs, live with dignity and enjoy basic human rights. Some of the projects that have been
carried out with this organisation is simply breath taking and inspiring. Michael Jackson includes the words
“I’m Gonna Make A Change” Well I have made a change, and my change is not self absorbed, its a change
for other people. I am a penpal with some of the Teachers and students of a small Kenyan school. They
share there every day lifes with me, and I share mine with them. To know that I have joined this organisation,
and I am helping with a major issue for someone else in the world, is such an amazing thought. The people
in a small town in Kenya, are just wonderful, they are kind and no matter how bad life gets for them, they always
smile. Simply astonishing.
In my Second life, I realised that there has to be a group out there that does the exact same thing. I started
searching and came across a group called Live and Learn In Kenya int. NGO. Live and Learn in Kenya is
a German-based organization based in Nakuru, Kenya. Their major focus is to provide extremely poor children with everything that they need to attend school so that they will learn to help themselves. They receive school fees, school supplies, uniforms and a warm meal every day. They came to Second life, to try and raise funds
and so that Second life people can know what making one little change can do. You see? These changes for other people not only occur in my Real life, but I am so happy to say that it occurs in my Second Life too.
Michael Jackson also includes “It’s Gonna Feel Real Good, Gonna Make A Difference,
Gonna Make It Right” After knowing, that I’ve made this huge change, and its made other peoples life’s change,
I feel as if I am on top of the world. It has made such a difference to other people, and it has made such a difference to me, that I just feel so full of satisfaction and delight, it’s outstanding. I shall continue to help with the group Team Kenya, in the hope of making this a large foundation and a foundation which will make many more lives happier. I shall also be joining Second Life’s very own Live and Learn In Kenya.
Take Michael Jackson’s advice, Make a change.
